AI & Productivity

See how to prioritize your week with 2 simple steps using ChatGPT or Bard, which leverage principles of the Eisenhower box productivity technique.

And now the deep dive!

This week we explore Guild of Guardians, as promised.

TL;DR

  • Diablo-style RPG mobile game with successful Alpha and release in Q4’23.

  • Free-to-play where you can earn GOG tokens and NFTs by playing the game.

  • Partnerships with e-sport teams, Ubisoft and Sandbox.

  • Recently changed dev team.

  • Very interesting mechanics with guilds, where guild masters receive a portion of the guild’s performance.

  • I’m slowly buying in the next few months. Focus on Guild tokens & Pets.

And the longer version with my strategy and the end🥳

Intro

Guild of Guardians

Inspired by Diablo and Dungeons and Dragons, Guild of Guardians, or GoG, is a mobile RPG game where players build their dream team of ‘Guardians’ and compete in a guild to earn epic, tradeable rewards.

In this game, players will take their team of heroes through challenging dungeons to collect resources and earn experience.

They can use these resources to craft items or summon heroes which can be traded for real money.

Players can build their dream team and work with their Guild to earn leaderboard and seasonal prizes.

They recently changed the developer from Stepico (developing GoG since 2020) to Mineloader.

Gameplay

Core mechanics:

  1. Players venture into instanced dungeons to complete challenges (5-10 minutes)

  2. Each dungeon is unique and filled with monsters, bosses, and traps which the players must overcome

  3. Players earn rewards such as resources, currency, and equipment

  4. Players spend these rewards on recruiting and upgrading heroes and crafting equipment

  5. Players use newly acquired heroes and equipment to complete progressively harder dungeons

Strategy before the dungeon is as important as your skill with micro-managing your team.

Team composition and synergies matter, so as a faction, class, and elements work together to give you specific buffs and advantages.

Guilds

A crucial component of GoG and its economy.

Guilds offer players access to Game Modes that are only accessible to members.

These game modes will provide the strongest enemies, and earn unique and rare rewards.

Also, the only way to create NFT items in Guild of Guardians is from Guilds.

How it works:

  • Crafting materials will be dropped from dungeons.

  • Players contribute crafting materials to their guild to craft blockchain items.

  • These items will be automatically sent to the market and sold.

  • The profits will be split proportionally to each player’s contribution.

  • The process is automated, giving no chance for guild masters to cheat the system

  • The guild master gets a guaranteed first-cut % of each sale

My thoughts & strategy

I really like the concept of a free-to-play mobile game, with decent gameplay (even though PvE only), and collab in the guilds. Also, partnership with e-sport teams.

I tried the Alpha version and enjoyed the gameplay, which is the most important factor to me.

What I don’t like is a missing roadmap, and changing the dev studio close before the release.

Also, with a strong focus on economy and monetization, I’m worried we can see something similar to the Thetan arena or Big Time.

People farming dungeons in the initial runs to extract as much as possible from the game, dumping the assets and leaving once it doesn’t make monetary sense anymore.

When it comes to guilds, that seems like a very strong economic concept.

Currently, we can have only around 50k players in Guilds.

As per Howie Zhang, Game Economist of GoG, they’re not planning more Guild tokens in the future, only some form of player parties.

That would make decent demand for Guild tokens since it’s the backbone of both the economy, but also the gameplay (tournaments).

I’m going for some guild tokens, sticking in low tiers, and buying over the next 5-6 months, depending on how the game development turns out.

Regarding token, it currently sits around an all-time low of $0.054 and there is an ongoing airdrop.

With 380m tokens in circulation, and active staking running for the last 3 weeks (details here: https://guildofguardians.medium.com/the-guilds-treasure-full-details-of-the-gog-active-staking-4ea76509728c ), it doesn’t seem worth to participate.

What’s more, the end of this staking might result in more tokens on the market, and we have already low liquidity, so I’ll wait for this event to happen before getting my hands on the token in early June.

I’m not buying heroes as of now, I hold a few already from pre-sales.

With the mechanics in place, I’ll probably wait for release before making bigger investments in Heroes (since you can mint them from the game).

What I’m going for are pets.

These are limited in quantity and provide a boost to your team while running dungeons.

Money-wise Rare rarity looks like the best bet today, but we don’t know the rates yet.

I’ll go for a few pets from all 3 types since I don’t see a huge benefit of any yet.

Normally I would go for Workers as I enjoy passive returns, but I expect people to dive into the game in the early phase, running a lot of dungeons and that will benefit pets boosting these rewards rather than slowly farming resources.

I don’t want to see too long emails, ping me on Twitter or reply here and tell me what you like the most.

That way I can focus on what brings you the most value.

As always, the full analysis is at Meta Investor.

See you next week!
